modcloth, why have you abandoned me??

Melodrama aside, wow. I haven't ordered much from Modcloth since I got pregnant with Alec, but their dresses have changed big time in the past three years. When I ordered from them regularly they had tons of 50s' or pin-up style dresses: short sleeves, low necklines, fitted bodice, A-line skirts that went over the knee. The skirts were probably supposed to be tea-length on the average female, but still covered knees on my taller self.

Yeah, they've entered the 60s while I wasn't looking. Lots of shift dresses, high necklines, sleeveless, and way too short for me to sit and bend over in. I'm trying to find something for Christmas events with very little luck. Boo.

Though I am the proud owner of a Peggy Carter shirt and a pair of Alexander Hamilton socks...

Cry for help, ukrainian dancing edition

Does anyone know where I can find astrakhan/karakul/persian lamb looking fake fur? Or have any in their stash? I will pay in blood, or gold, or whatever.

I cannot make hats out of this floppy faux fur shit.

In reference to my last post

I had to wake Bruce up to tell him that someone was actually dumb enough to name a meal replacement Soylent.

He wondered out loud what flavor it was, then grinned and added "or does it vary from person to person?"

But is it people?!?!?

I kid you not. Here's a link to the FAQ for Soylent: https://faq.soylent.com/hc/en-us/articles/200836809-What-is-Soylent-.

I have no words.

Just had a lovely evening walk on a surprisingly mild and clear night, ending with a bit of a jog.

In other words, I spent an hour trying to find Grace the Wonder Dog after she broke her collar and escaped from the dog run.

Perspective is everything, right?

It's been snowing for the past six hours or so. But it's fairytale snow...it looks all silvery coming down, and is very light and fluffy on the ground. I've cleared the driveways and the cars twice, but in about ten minutes and with a broom. This kind of snow I don't mind too much!

Hope everyone's warm and dry tonight.

First David Bowie, now Alan Rickman. If Angela Lansbury is next I am dropping out of 2016.

I need to unChristmas the house. There's not a huge amount: stockings and hangers, the kids' little tree, the big Christmas tree, and the nativity set. I also want to give all the holiday things a good clearing out. I'm keeping the Christmas village, though I didn't set it up this year, but I don't really care about much else.

Attention Knitters

I want to make socks. Help me.

I can knit and follow a written pattern. (I cannot read charted patterns.)

What is a good starter sock pattern and yarn for socks I can wear everyday with tennis shoes or boots or what have you?

I'd really appreciate any input.

I may have missed my window for falling asleep tonight. It's quarter to one and I think I will go through the orphan sock basket and make pairs.

In which I stumble onto a New Year's Resolution

In 2016 my family will be eating supper together.

Well, whoever is home will all sit down together. No feeding the children while I do housework, or Bruce eating on a tray in our room if it is a normal person meal time.

Happy New Year to all

Hope everyone's 2015 was put to bed happily, and that 2016 treats you all well.

So, what did I do in 2015?

I had a baaaaaaaaaybeeeeeee!! Who is fat and happy and awesome. And still not having anything to do with people food at nine months old.

I made some beautiful garb for the children for the Renn Faire, and I went to the Faire outside of Philly for the first time.

Danced in the show for Ukrainian dancing. Just the finale, but still.

Went to Disney World en familie.

Made a bunch of kiddy jammies and long underwear out of wool sweaters. I need to posts pictures...they are super cute.

Got pneumonia. Frowny face.

Just occurred to me. ..

If this means we don't have to drive to VA Beach and back in the space of three days, having pneumonia will be totally worth it!!!

I have pneumonia. K has a fever and an earache. A has the same hacking cough I do, but clear lungs, thank goodness. R is three and acting like it.

And Bruce needs us all to keep it down because he needs a nap.

😑

Reality check, aisle 5.

Katrina v. Pop culture

"Mom, [boy on the bus] asked me what the fox says. I told him they yip. He said no, they sing some ring a ding song. I said no they don't, that's bells, foxes yip. I don't know where he's getting his creature facts, but that was very wrong."

In completely unrelated news, I have pneumonia. And codeine. I don't like the pneumonia and am undecided on the codeine.

If you never hear from me again, please assume my entire family was eaten by our Christmas tree. It is a hulking beast of a thing. It's only 7 feet tall, but it seems absolutely huge!

I'm keeping a close eye on both Alec and Mr. Hudson the cat. And if it starts singing motown classics we will evacuate immediately.

What a milestone

Katrina just wrote her first fan letter, via lj message, to the very funny, very talented, and possibly very sparkly [livejournal.com profile] ursulav. Katrina is convinced she must be sparkly, to be the source of the glory that is Harriet the Invincible.

We have read the first 12 chapters in the past hour and a half, and are only taking a break because my voice is tired and the baby woke up. I read the whole thing last night in the bath. It's a delightful story, and also serves as a child's first snark primer.
