Where do you all keep your cat boxes?

We used to have Hudson's box in a little storage room with a babygate with a cat hatch cut in it to keep out dogs and toddlers. However, the humans in the house selfishly decided to renovate the room and turn it into a playroom for those awful children we insist on bringing home to take attention away from Hudson. so we need to relocate.

We don't have a basement, and there's no way to have it in the garage without escapage. He refuses to use a covered box, which limits options a bit. I'd appreciate and suggestions people have.

We put a cat door in the linen closet, so the cats can go in and use it, but we can keep the door shut. We also keep our chemicals and such in there, and have a bolt on the door, so the kids can't get in there.

Um, I wouldn't keep linens in the closet with the literbox, unless your closet has more ventilation than ours..

I like the linen closet idea. We have a basement now but when I lived in an apartment I put it behind a screen in the living room. It's really not ideal at all but it certainly kept me on top of keeping that thing clean!!

Currently we have a mudroom that we have the cat box in. We also have one in the upstairs bathroom but they never use that one. We use a baby gate to keep the dogs out when necessary.

But I'm still not sure where the cat box is going to live in the new place.

I'm not going to be any help for two reasons.

1) I have no children, nor non-feline pets, so I don't have to worry about non-cats getting into the litter box.

2) One of the reasons* I bought this condo was because it had a readymade place to put the litter box (the area under the stairs is part of the downstairs laundry room/powder room, and there's just enough room in the "ceiling is low enough to bang your head on" section next to the water heater for a litter box).

*One of about a dozen reasons, but still.

I do wish you luck in figuring out the quandary, though.

Our cat is technically Silvester's cat, which is all the excuse I need to keep her litter tray outside his room.

We kept ours in the bathroom when we lived in a place with a big enough bathroom. Right now it's in the office, but once the baby comes we'll probably have to stick it in the attic. (We have a walk-up attic.)

Actually, this might work for me. I'm trying to get the actual linens out of my linen closet to keep in the actual rooms where they are used. I might try this with a baby gate in front of the doorway before modifying the door, to make sure Mr. Hudson likes it.

Finding a spot for the cat boxes and dog crates can be the hardest part of getting your home set up, I think.
