I don't think we got an 8-month sleep regression because his sleep was atrocious all along until about 9 months or so. Sleep aggression, I used to call it.
I do remember a period of him waking up every 90 minutes to two hours, so maybe it was that. And it was awful. So you have my sympathy.
(At the moment we've had a week of him waking up at 5 every morning, and being very good about lying down in his cot and trying to go to sleep, but just failing at it, and thus requiring an adult with him for the remainder of the night. It's got me in a foul mood -- well done you for limiting the complaining to under your breath.)
