Hail! and help!
Mar. 29th, 2012 07:12 pmSomeone please read Discount Armaggedon by Seanan McGuire so I can talk about it with you!
pinkminx, you wanted recommendations of funny books, right? This one has fantabulous talking mice, and that's just the beginning.
Teaser-wise, the book is about a cryptozoologist in New York whose real dream is to be a competitive ballroom dancer. I really enjoyed the humor, the minor role the obligatory romance was kept in, and the fact that the author realizes there is more to mythology than the Celts. She uses "cryptids" native to North America, the Indian subcontinent, and Japan, as well as Greek oreads, dragon princesses, and the previously alluded-to Aeslin mice. The mice are my favorites, probably because I can relate to the loud, frequent religious celebrations with lots of food.
