This week I earned my mommy points by decorating Katrina's bedroom. She picked out the color, a surprisingly unoffensive shade of purply pink (orchid, I suppose), before we moved in. She insisted on bringing her wall stickies up from Virginia, so I figured that would be the theme.

My mother, who alternates spending binges with periods of fearing she's going to end up as a bag lady, insisted on buying Katrina an owl-themed comforter and sheets yesterday at Pottery Barn Kids. Actually, I paid for half with some gift cards I had been saving. Anyway, I had to make the rest of the room live up to the comforter. (And incidentally, if anybody wants to blow $400 on helping me decorate my bedroom, I'm all for it.)

I found a mosquito net that looked like the store model, but cost eight dollars instead of $70, on Amazon. The canvas pictures came from TJ Maxx, and cost 16 apiece. The sparkly flowers were two bucks each at Hobby Lobby. The wall decals, as I said, came up with us from Virginia. I moved them stuck to wax paper, and it worked surprisingly well.

The black blob at the bottom of the first picture is Katrina's stuffed horse, Khan.

I did all this while she was sleeping over at my mother's house last night. I did make sure she knew I was doing it, because surprise changes and four-year-olds do not go well together. Here is madam surveying her new domain:

I do wish the bedding wasn't so freaking pastel. Otherwise I think it turned out well, especially considering that everything came from about eight different stores.

I'm thinking white tulle for the drapes, though I am open to suggestions.

And timeout for a little brag, but I finished that bed myself. Bought it unfinished from a store in Virginia Beach, then stained and sealed it myself.
