Dec. 10th, 2013 03:03 pmI'm watching the Lincoln Center broadcast performance of Company, and five minutes in I already have burning thoughts.
I like the costuming. It places things squarely in the 1970s without feeling fakey or too costumey.
I did not know Martha Plimpton could sing.
Whoever did the sound mixing deserves an award. You can hear and distinguish every person's lyrics, which is no mean feat with thirteen people singing. I've never heard this number sound so good. Really amazing.
I am thrilled that they have the whole New York Philharmonic for this. I do not like the trend toward using smaller and smaller orchestras for shows.
I want to smack Neil Patrick Harris. Hit the damn note. You are not Perry Como. Stop scooping!
Patti Lupone is actually singing singing, and not just giving her Patti Lupone impersonation! Yay! She sounds great.
Why did they give Stephen Colbert Sorry Grateful? Must you ruin my favorite song??? Bad move. He sounds like he's imitating a classic country singer. He's hitting the notes, but there's no legato and this really odd twang. :-(
All three guys on this are weak. The Broadway revival men were amazing.
