Long time, no update

Not dead yet, in case anyone was concerned. I have been reading, but updating on my phone is a real pain, and I haven't had much of a chance to sit down and type.
We ended up letting our offer on the house expire. I kept getting cold sweats thinking about that little lot, and the tax paperwork to get the mortgage was ridiculously complicated and confusing to everyone. I'm kind of relieved to be staying here for at least another year or two. I like this house, and it will be nice to have the chance to get everything 100% the way I want it and actually be able to enjoy it.
In related news, I have somehow managed to misplace six yards or curtain material. It's driving me nuts. I have a clear memory of putting the fabric and the trims in a modcloth box so it would all be together, but hell if I know where it is now. So frustrating. Though Bruce is being very nice about not mentioning the fleece throws I've draped over the windows.
The Christmas Eve broadcast went as well as could be expected, with our two loud tone-deaf choir members (both of whom have since dropped out, hooray hooray). And the party in the rectory afterward went until three a.m., which was crazy fun. My whiskey punch was a huge success, which is also gratifying.
Christmas was good. The kids and I opened stockings at home and then did Christmas Day at my mother's while Bruce was at work, and he and I did Christmas with the kids at our house the day after. I actually really liked splitting it up. It would have been too much all at once if we did it in one day. All four of my aunts send my children gifts, along with Bruce's brother, his parents, my mom and Rick, my dad, my grandparents, and Bruce and I, so it really is too much. I know why people do it, and I'm grateful that everyone is in the position *to* do that, but holy crap! Aunt Audrey sent Kat and Robs four presents A PIECE!! I know she enjoys it, and it's another way of showing how much she loves me, and she's in the financial position to do it, so I can't suggest that one gift is plenty. She'd thank me for not taking it for granted (which I think a lot of people do), and keep on keeping on.
Then it was birthdays. Katrina was five on the 6th, and Robs was 2 on the 23rd. She had a small party at the YMCA, half church kids and half school kids. It was nice and low-key. Robs got a set of blocks and a pat on the head. I don't do big birthdays until they are old enough to ask for it. This year was Kat's first friend party.
